Venue: Southport arts centre @ Visual Arts Gallery
Local artist Philip Garrett from Maghull is holding an exhibition in the Southport arts centre, Lord Street till the 4th
The work is about copying nature, usually people and landscapes, through the medium of sculpture, drawing and printmaking. I am looking to create something that will draw the viewer in, and make them aware of the space between themselves and the picture itself. I am interested in the form, and try to create figures that feel heavy and solid, sculptural but lifelike. I am building up a body of work that involves drawing and modelling portraits of people interested in sitting for me.
This exhibition is a sample of these drawings and prints made as part of a forthcoming open studios project across West Lancs later this year. The open studios project is run by a group of artists across the region who will open the doors for a week later this year. However if people wish to visit my studio before they are more than welcome. I am also involved in teaching art anatomy and sculpture to young people across the northwest, in an attempt to encourage good draughtsmanship and develop a link between art and science.
The event runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on:
